Convair XFY-1 Pogo Tail-Sitter VTOL Research Aircraft Family

The Convair XFY-1 Pogo was a single-seat propeller-driven tail-sitter developed for the U.S. Navy to investigate vertical takeoff and landing from a compact shipboard footprint. The aircraft combined a pointed tail-standing configuration with contra-rotating propellers for hover, transition and conventional flight research; it made its first flight in 1954 before the tail-sitter concept was abandoned as impractical for operational use.
