Diamant was France’s first orbital launch-vehicle lineage and the first indigenous orbital launcher developed outside the United States and Soviet Union. Derived from the Pierres précieuses ballistic test programme, its A, B, and BP4 versions flew 12 missions from 1965 to 1975 and established the launch expertise that fed into Ariane.
