Dornier Do 17 Flying Pencil Bomber and Reconnaissance Family

The Dornier Do 17 was a narrow-fuselage twin-engine aircraft that evolved from a fast commercial-transport concept into a German light bomber and long-range reconnaissance family. Its distinctive twin-fin silhouette and shoulder-mounted engines earned the Flying Pencil nickname; Do 17 E and F aircraft saw combat in the Spanish Civil War, while the Do 17 Z became an important Luftwaffe bomber and reconnaissance type during the opening years of the Second World War and the Battle of Britain.
