Dynamics Explorer 2 low-altitude ionospheric research spacecraft

NASA's Dynamics Explorer 2 was launched on 3 August 1981 into a lower, near-circular polar orbit as the low-altitude member of the paired DE mission. It investigated coupling among Earth's magnetosphere, ionosphere, and atmosphere and measured ionospheric and thermospheric electric and magnetic fields, neutral composition, temperature, and winds until operations ceased in February 1983.
