The EWR VJ 101 C was a West German experimental supersonic VTOL interceptor developed by the Entwicklungsring Süd consortium of Bölkow, Heinkel, and Messerschmitt as a successor concept to the F-104G. The X-1 made its first hover flight in 1963 and the type became the first German aircraft and first VTOL to exceed Mach 1, but the two-prototype programme was cancelled before production.
