Explorer 4 was the fourth U.S. International Geophysical Year satellite, launched July 26, 1958 to measure corpuscular radiation in Earth orbit with Geiger-Mueller and scintillator counters. It transmitted science data until October 6, 1958 and reentered Earth atmosphere in 1959.
