Explorer 44, known as SOLRAD 10 or Solar Explorer-C, was a Naval Research Laboratory and NASA solar-radiation satellite launched on July 8, 1971. Its spin-stabilized Sun-pointed instruments monitored solar X-ray and ultraviolet emissions, with commandable observations of other stellar sources; the mission returned solar data through March 1976 before atmospheric re-entry on December 15, 1979.
