Explorer 45, also known as S-Cubed-A, S3-A, or the Small Scientific Satellite-A, was a NASA magnetospheric research satellite launched on November 15, 1971 from the San Marco platform. Its programmable experiments measured ring-current particles, plasma, electric and magnetic fields, plasmapause and magnetopause dynamics, and wave-particle interactions in the heart of the magnetosphere until it was switched off on September 30, 1974.
