The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was a German single-engine military aircraft family developed around Kurt Tank's compact, radial-powered fighter design. First flown in 1939 and introduced to Luftwaffe units in 1941, it became a major Second World War fighter and was adapted for fighter, ground-attack, reconnaissance, training, and other service roles. The later liquid-cooled Fw 190 D represented a substantial re-engining and aerodynamic development of the same family rather than a separate design.
