Grumman F6F Hellcat Carrier Fighter Family

The Grumman F6F Hellcat was a single-seat carrier fighter developed from the Wildcat-era Grumman design team to give the U.S. Navy a rugged, powerful answer to Japan's A6M. Its simple structure, folding wing, armor, self-sealing tanks, and progressively more powerful engines made it easy to manufacture and maintain while preserving carrier suitability. Hellcats became the Navy's principal fighter in the Pacific, and later variants served as night fighters, trainers, and radio-controlled drones.
