H-I Launch Vehicle

H-I was Japan's transitional launch vehicle between the licensed Delta-derived N series and the fully domestically developed H-II. It retained N-II's first stage and strap-on boosters while introducing Japan's LE-5 liquid-hydrogen second stage, a domestic solid third stage, and domestic inertial guidance; all nine launches succeeded from 1986 through 1992.
