Hawker Hurricane Single-Engine Fighter Family
The Hawker Hurricane was a British single-engine fighter that combined a modern retractable monoplane layout with Hawker's proven tubular-metal and fabric construction. First flown in 1935, it entered RAF service in 1937 and became the most numerous British fighter during the Battle of Britain, where its ruggedness and heavy armament made it a dependable air-defence and ground-attack platform. More than 14,000 were built in Britain and Canada, and the family served in nearly every major theatre of the Second World War.
