The Hawker Siddeley HS801 Nimrod was a long-range jet maritime-patrol family developed from the de Havilland Comet 4C. Its new mission systems, radar, sonobuoy and weapons bay, and tail-mounted magnetic-anomaly detector supported anti-submarine and maritime surveillance operations, while later variants added signals intelligence and search-and-rescue capability for the Royal Air Force.
