Hawkeye 1, also known as Explorer 52, Injun-F, or the Neutral Point Explorer, was a University of Iowa NASA spacecraft launched on June 3, 1974. Its plasma-wave receiver, triaxial fluxgate magnetometer, and low-energy proton-electron analyzer surveyed the polar cusp, auroral zone, bow shock, magnetopause, and neutral-point region of Earth’s magnetosphere during nearly four years of operation before re-entry on April 28, 1978.
