The Ilyushin Il-18 was a four-engine Soviet turboprop transport that became one of Aeroflot's principal medium- and long-range airliners and was exported widely. First flown in 1957, the durable low-wing design carried passengers and freight for decades, while government and military operators adapted related airframes for transport and special duties. Its long production run and continuing limited service made it one of the defining turboprop airliners of the early jet age.
