The Ilyushin Il-86 was the Soviet Union's first wide-body passenger aircraft, designed for high-capacity domestic and international routes with a broad cabin and four rear-mounted engines. It became the largest Soviet-built airliner in regular Aeroflot service and a defining civil-aviation project of the late Soviet period.
