RLV-TD is ISRO’s winged flying testbed for technologies needed by a future reusable launch system. Its fuselage, double-delta wings, twin vertical tails and active control surfaces support research in hypersonic flight, thermal protection, autonomous guidance and landing. The first hypersonic experiment flew from Sriharikota on 23 May 2016 after ascent on an HS9 solid booster. Later helicopter-released landing experiments validated runway approach and recovery using the Pushpak configuration. These demonstrations precede a future scaled-up orbital launch system.
