Kaguya (SELENE) lunar exploration spacecraft system
Kaguya, formally SELENE, was JAXA's lunar exploration system comprising a main orbiter and the Relay and VRAD subsatellites. Launched in 2007, it mapped the Moon's origin and evolution, demonstrated lunar relay and precision-orbit technologies, and completed its mission with a controlled lunar impact in 2009.
