Kosmos 159 Ye-6LS High-Apogee Lunar-Orbiter Test Spacecraft

Kosmos 159 was the Soviet Ye-6LS No. 111 one-off high-apogee Earth-orbit spacecraft launched on 16 May 1967. It was developed to validate trajectory-measurement techniques for future lunar orbiters and to study the effects of lunar gravity anomalies; the planned 250,000-kilometer apogee mission remained a technology and navigation test rather than a lunar orbit. NASA chronologies differ on its mass, so no mass is asserted here.
