Kosmos 359 V-70 Venus Landing Spacecraft
Kosmos 359 was the Soviet V-70 (3V No. 631) Venus landing spacecraft launched on 22 August 1970. Its Blok NVL upper-stage engine ignited late and cut off after 25 seconds because of sequencer and power-supply failures, leaving the payload stranded in Earth orbit until reentry on 6 November 1970. The bus carried a cosmic-ray detector, and the lander carried a gamma-ray spectrometer, pressure-and-temperature instrument, and maximum-acceleration instrument.
