Kosmos-3M was the upgraded production version of the R-14-derived Kosmos-3. The expendable two-stage vehicle used storable propellants and could place about 1,500 kilograms into low Earth orbit. Produced first at Krasnoyarsk and later by NPO Polyot in Omsk, it served from 1967 to 2010, most often launching small spacecraft into high-inclination and polar orbits from Plesetsk.
