Kosmos 482 V-72 Venus Landing Spacecraft
Kosmos 482 was the Soviet V-72 (3V No. 671) Venus landing spacecraft launched on 31 March 1972. The Blok L escape stage main engine cut off after 125 seconds because of an onboard timer failure, leaving the spacecraft in an elliptical Earth orbit; it reentered in May 1981. Its bus carried cosmic-ray, solar-wind, and ultraviolet instruments, while the lander carried atmospheric, photometric, gamma-ray, gas-analysis, and wind measurements.
