The Leonardo C-27J Spartan is a twin-turboprop tactical transport developed from the G.222 airframe with new propulsion, avionics, and systems related to the C-130J. First flown in 1999, it combines a rear-ramp cargo hold with short- and unprepared-runway capability. Operators use the family for military and humanitarian transport, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting, disaster response, and other special missions.
