The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is an American stealth air-dominance fighter developed through the Advanced Tactical Fighter competition and an engineering-and-manufacturing-development programme led by Lockheed Martin with Boeing as airframe partner. Its combination of low observability, supercruise, thrust-vectoring control, and integrated avionics made it a defining fifth-generation combat-aircraft design; the YF-22 prototypes established the lineage before the first production-representative F-22 flew in 1997.
