The Lockheed Martin P-791 was a crewed, half-scale hybrid-airship demonstrator developed by Skunk Works to validate a cargo-airship architecture. Its multi-lobed helium envelope supplied buoyant lift while its shape, propulsion, flight controls, and air-cushion landing system supported aerodynamic lift, maneuvering, and ground handling. The prototype flew at Palmdale in 2006 and completed its planned flight-test objectives, providing the practical basis for Lockheed Martin's later hybrid-airship work.
