Lockheed XV-4 Hummingbird Augmented-Jet-Lift V/STOL Research Aircraft Family
The Lockheed XV-4 Hummingbird family comprised the XV-4A augmented-jet-lift demonstrator and the materially redesigned XV-4B lift-plus-lift-cruise research aircraft. The XV-4A first flew conventionally in 1962 and used twin JT-12 turbojets with a fuselage augmentor ejector system; the XV-4B replaced that arrangement with four vertical lift engines and two thrust-vectoring cruise engines to investigate a different VTOL architecture.
