Mars M-71 was the Soviet orbiter-lander spacecraft design flown as Mars 2 and Mars 3 in 1971. Each solar-powered flight system combined a Mars orbiter bus with a detachable descent module: both orbiters reached Mars orbit, the Mars 2 lander crashed during entry, and the Mars 3 lander made the first survivable landing on the planet.
