The Mobile Asteroid Surface Scout (MASCOT) was a compact DLR/CNES asteroid lander carried by JAXA's Hayabusa2 to near-Earth asteroid Ryugu. Deployed on 3 October 2018, it used a hopping mechanism and operated on the surface for about 17 hours, returning imaging, thermal, magnetic, and mineralogical measurements.
