The Mitsubishi J8M Shusui was Japan’s rocket-powered high-altitude interceptor developed from late-1943 efforts to counter Boeing B-29 bombers. A glider version flew by December 1944, the first powered aircraft was completed in June 1945, and its first powered flight ended in a fatal crash before propulsion modifications could be completed; the related Army designation was Ki-200.
