Montgolfier Hot-Air Balloon Series

The Montgolfier balloons were the experimental hot-air craft built by Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier in France in 1782 and 1783. Using lightweight fabric-and-paper envelopes filled by heated air, their progressively larger balloons advanced from small models to public free flight and then to carrying living passengers. The series opened the age of practical human flight and established the hot-air balloon as the first successful crew-carrying aircraft configuration.
