NASA X-38 Crew Return Vehicle Technology-Demonstrator Spaceplane Family
NASA’s X-38 was a series of prototype lifting-body vehicles developed as a crew return vehicle concept for the International Space Station. NASA and Scaled Composites built atmospheric and space-rated prototypes for drop, glide, and parafoil-landing research; the program flew 15 atmospheric test flights between 1997 and 2001 before development was canceled.
