Nike-Deacon was a two-stage scientific sounding-rocket configuration developed through NACA and University of Michigan work. NASA’s history distinguishes the initial 1953 aerodynamic test flights from the first dedicated sounding-rocket flight at Wallops in April 1955. The design supported upper-atmosphere research before Nike-Cajun superseded it.
