The Nord 1500-02 Griffon II was a French research aircraft that combined an Atar turbojet with a Nord Aviation ramjet. Developed under Claude Flamand’s direction, it followed the earlier Griffon prototype and first flew on January 23, 1957. Its high-speed testing included reaching Mach 2 in August 1958. André Turcat also set an international speed record over a 100-kilometre closed circuit at 1,643 km/h. On October 5, 1959, the aircraft recorded 2,330 km/h at 15,000 metres, reported as Mach 2.19. It is preserved by the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace.
