North American F-100 Super Sabre Supersonic Fighter Family
The North American F-100 Super Sabre was the first production fighter capable of sustained supersonic speed in level flight and the first of the United States Air Force's Century Series. Its YF-100A prototype first flew in 1953, and the A, C, D, and F variants developed from a day fighter into a major tactical aircraft for air defense, fighter-bomber, training, and reconnaissance support roles. North American built 2,294 Super Sabres, which served the United States and allied air forces through the Cold War and made extensive operational contributions in Vietnam.
