Perlan 2
Perlan 2 is a two-seat pressurized research glider designed to ride stratospheric mountain waves and collect atmospheric data above conventional sailplane altitudes. Its unpowered flight avoids contaminating the air being sampled, while a sealed cabin, oxygen rebreathers, and a science bay support crewed upper-atmosphere research. First flown in 2015, it set successive altitude records over Patagonia; on September 2, 2018 it reached a pressure altitude of 76,124 feet. The project's 90,000-foot objective is a design and research goal rather than the altitude of that record flight.
