Perlan 2 is a two-seat pressurized research glider built to explore stratospheric mountain waves and collect atmospheric data at altitudes beyond conventional sailplane operation. With no propulsion system, it gains energy from rising air; its sealed cabin, life-support equipment, specialized aerodynamics, and scientific payload bay support sustained crewed research in the thin, cold upper atmosphere. The aircraft set successive glider altitude records during campaigns over Patagonia.
