Piasecki VZ-8 Airgeep Ducted-Fan VTOL Demonstrator Family
The Piasecki VZ-8 Airgeep was a 1958 U.S. Army single-seat ducted-fan flying-vehicle demonstrator. Two counter-rotating ducted fans initially used Lycoming reciprocating engines and were later re-engined with two 425-horsepower Turbomeca Artouste turboshafts; the underpowered but controllable ground-effect vehicle explored low-altitude VTOL mobility and required artificial stabilization.
