Pioneer 9 Solar Observatory Spacecraft

Pioneer 9 was NASA’s fourth solar-orbiting interplanetary observatory. Launched in 1968, it measured solar wind, cosmic rays and interplanetary magnetic fields from heliocentric orbit, achieved its objectives by 1969, and was declared inactive in 1987 after contact was lost.
