Proton (UR-500)

The original UR-500, later named Proton, was the two-stage first configuration of the Soviet heavy launch vehicle. Its 1965–1966 flight-test program launched the Proton 1, Proton 2, and Proton 3 scientific satellites and established the clustered hypergolic architecture from which the three-stage Proton-K was developed.
