Republic F-105 Thunderchief Supersonic Fighter-Bomber Family
The Republic F-105 Thunderchief was a large, single-engine supersonic fighter-bomber family developed from Republic's post-Korean-war effort to replace the F-84F. Its YF-105A prototype first flew in 1955, and the production B, D, F, G, and reconnaissance-related forms became a defining United States Air Force aircraft of the early Cold War and Vietnam era. The family combined high-speed flight, long-range strike, all-weather navigation, and specialized electronic-countermeasures variants, and 833 aircraft were built before the last examples left service in the 1980s.
