The Robinson R22 is a two-seat light piston helicopter created to make rotary-wing flying more accessible to private owners and training schools. It first flew in 1975, received FAA certification in 1979, and became a widely used platform for flight instruction, personal transport, livestock work, and other light utility missions. The continuing R22 Beta II preserves the compact two-blade configuration while later variants introduced different Lycoming engine installations and optional float equipment.
