The Ryan VZ-3RY Vertiplane was a deflected-slipstream V/STOL research aircraft used by NASA Ames to explore powered-lift flight. Oversized propellers and full-span slats redirected slipstream to augment wing lift, while engine-exhaust reaction controls supported low-speed pitch and yaw; testing showed the concept favored STOL performance and was difficult to control in gusts and ground effect.
