The Savoia-Marchetti S.55 was an Italian twin-hull flying-boat family whose unusual tandem-engine layout supported military patrol and bomber work, passenger and mail variants, and long-range record flights. S.55 aircraft carried Italian crews across the South Atlantic and North Atlantic in the interwar period, including the 1933 formation flight to Chicago that made the type an enduring symbol of long-distance seaplane operations.
