The Short SC1 was a British single-seat pure-jet VTOL research aircraft conceived and acquired for the Royal Aircraft Establishment to investigate vertical takeoff, hovering, transition, and landing. Its four lift engines and separate cruise engine supported systematic jet V/STOL research in the 1950s and 1960s, providing a distinct experimental path alongside the Hawker P.1127 before the Harrier.
