The Short Sunderland was a large British four-engine maritime flying boat developed from the Short Empire civil transport. Its long endurance, boat hull, spacious internal volume, and ability to operate from sheltered water supported maritime patrol, convoy protection, transport, and rescue. The family served globally through the Second World War and afterward, including cargo work during the Berlin Airlift and long-range operations in Asia.
