Sikorsky S-40 Pan American Clipper Amphibious Airliner Family

The Sikorsky S-40 was a large four-engine amphibious flying boat designed for Pan American Airways and the first aircraft to carry the airline's Clipper name. Three aircraft were built, carrying roughly forty passengers on Caribbean routes and demonstrating the scale, range, and over-water operating practices that shaped Pan Am's later oceanic flying-boat fleet. The family is represented as a civil airliner design, while the American Clipper is cataloged separately as the historically significant first Clipper airframe.
