Space Launch System Block 2 is NASA's final planned SLS evolution. It retains the four-RS-25 core stage and four-engine Exploration Upper Stage while replacing the heritage-derived five-segment boosters with more powerful Booster Obsolescence and Life Extension boosters. NASA plans the configuration beginning with the ninth SLS flight, Artemis IX; crew and cargo configurations are designed to send approximately 43 and 46 metric tons respectively toward the Moon or other deep-space destinations.
