Sud-Est / Sud Aviation SE-210 Caravelle Jetliner Family
The Sud-Est SE-210 Caravelle was France's pioneering rear-engined short-haul jetliner and one of the first commercially successful aircraft of the jet age. First flown in 1955, its clean twin-tail layout placed the engines at the rear of the fuselage, a configuration that influenced later Douglas DC-9 and Boeing 727 designs; successive Caravelle versions carried passengers for airlines on several continents until the type's retirement.
