The Sukhoi Su-33 is the carrier-based fighter derivative of the Su-27 family, originally designated Su-27K. Developed for naval fleet air defense, it incorporates folding wing and tail surfaces, reinforced landing gear, and an arresting hook for carrier operations; the first serial aircraft flew in 1990 and the type entered service as Su-33 in 1998.
