Thor-Delta J was a three-stage thrust-augmented improved Delta configuration with the enlarged Delta second stage and a solid third stage. Its sole flight successfully launched NASA's Radio Astronomy Explorer 1, Explorer 38, into a high Earth orbit from Vandenberg on 4 July 1968.
