Vought-Hiller-Ryan XC-142A Tilt-Wing V/STOL Tactical Transport Family
The Vought-Hiller-Ryan XC-142A was a four-propeller tilt-wing V/STOL tactical transport developed for the U.S. Tri-Service V/STOL Test Program. Its wing tilted from conventional flight through vertical-lift positions, while four GE T64-GE-1 turboshafts drove the wing propellers through interconnected shafts and a tail propeller provided hover pitch control. The prototype first flew in 1964 and the retired family remains a significant full-scale demonstration of tilt-wing assault-transport operations.
